Hi! My name is Mareena - my friends call me Reena. I have been a Special Olympics Champion Athlete (and friend) for the past 12 years.
Up above you saw a little bit of what Special Olympics has done for me and how much I am committed to Special Olympics!
I started Special Olympics when I was 8 years old. As you can see, my favorite sport is gymnastics. I'm also a Global Messenger, but talking in front of others has not always been easy for me. BUT Special Olympics is such an important part of my life, and the life of others. People are very special to me. Being & doing your BEST is very important to me.
Some of my other accomplishments – more to come!:
- Sports (of course)
- Graduated Hersey High School (in the year 2020)
- Work at Jewel-Osco and I am being trained as a dog groomer.
- Exploring colleges and vocational programs - hopefully starting one soon.
(I remember playing soccer, as a toddler, and not being able to play like the other kids. When I was older, in my local gym, I was not able to do gymnastics like the other kids did and I got hurt a few times because of it. Special Olympics changed all of that! I learned I AM an athlete and I AM a strong and caring person. I met other athletes like me and peer coaches who care about us and want us to be our best!
Now, I try to help others know that they are too. Not just in athletics, but in school, at work with friends and in life!
Please support and purchase ducks from me for the Duck Derby on August 7th.
Thank you so much and Good Luck!!! (Quack Quack)
