HELP US FLOAT HOPE with the Grateful Ducks!
The Grateful Ducks are back and excited to join another amazing family in honoring our late husbands John and Josh. Ashley and Elysha met at Kindermourn over 2 years ago as we navigated the early days of tragically and unexpectedly losing John to a hemorrhagic stroke and Josh to a car accident.
If you knew John, you knew he loved a good jam band, a Sierra Nevada in hand, being outside, and spending time with his family. Josh was no different. From live music to camping with his family, reading an Irvine Welsh novel and laughing at Curb Your Enthusiasm, Josh and John are kindred spirits who we like to think of as often hiking with our late pups and watching over us and the kids.
Together, we have found KinderMourn to be a safe space to land amidst the intensity of our grief. Elysha first explained grief therapy to the boys as "medicine for the soul"; similar to being active and healthy, it was a place to exercise "grief muscles" to help navigate their new normal. Ashley had Townes immediately enrolled in play therapy, which was tremendously beneficial in helping with separation anxiety and processing the loss of his favorite person. As the boys aged, they have all attended weekly group therapy while the moms meet with other widows and widowers for much needed community and support. Goldie likes to tag along for the snacks ;)
KinderMourn allows children and families to process and heal while offering a safe and inclusive place of hope. It is a place that catches families in a comforting home during the darkest and most challenging times of their lives.
KinderMourn provides hope for bereaved parents, grieving children and teens by offering support and counseling programs, creating awareness of bereavement issues and empowering the community to effectively assist those who have suffered an unthinkable loss.
By adopting ducks, you help children, adults, and families in our community navigate the maze of loss and bereavement.
We are so grateful for the abundance in our lives and are very determined to help raise a significant amount of money to go directly to the needs of KinderMourn. The staff does life SAVING work. The building represents more than just a "house"; it is a place for families to process the unthinkable and land in the loving arms of the most wonderful humans. So quit your quacking and adopt some ducks already! Setting the bar high so please help us raise a DUCK ton of money!
All the love,
Ashley, Townes, Goldie, Elysha, Sam, Caleb
